01 / OVERVIEW

Overview

SimdSkia is an independent C# 2D engine for drawing, fonts, basic text layout, and image encoding and decoding. CPU rendering is the default, with optional Vulkan and Windows Direct2D backends. Avalonia integration packages make it possible to evaluate managed rendering in cross-platform desktop applications.

02 / CAPABILITIES

Key capabilities

01

C# drawing, fonts, basic text layout, and image codecs

02

CPU rendering with optional Vulkan / Direct2D backends

03

Avalonia integration and partial SkiaSharp source-API compatibility

03 / POSSIBILITIES

Ideas to explore

  • Study C# graphics, glyph rendering, and pixel compositing
  • Evaluate rendering backends in Avalonia desktop examples
  • Compare startup, allocation, memory, and visual quality in specific workloads

04 / GET STARTED

Getting started

Before you begin

  • Matching .NET, Avalonia, and preview-package versions from the README
  • The relevant system APIs and drivers for GPU backends
  • Evaluate API, font, and whole-page visual differences before migrating

Get the project

dotnet add package SimdSkia.Avalonia.Desktop --prerelease

Next steps

  1. For a new desktop example, start with the SimdSkia.Avalonia.Desktop preview package.
  2. Configure startup code as documented; installing the package alone is insufficient.
  3. Test real application pages for visual quality, performance, and memory before migrating.

05 / SCOPE & STATUS

Current boundaries

Currently a preview. Full API and whole-page visual parity have not passed all checks. A macOS GPU backend has not been implemented.

This introduction is based on the public README. Consult the repository for current versions, licenses, and supported features.
